Title: The Obstacles to Sanctification
Passage: Ephesians 2
1. Paul says we face three enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil. Which of those do you think people your age feel most strongly right now? What does that enemy look like in everyday life? Why is it powerful?
2. The sermon compared "the world" to a lazy river. Why is that a helpful picture? What messages does our culture constantly push on people your age? How do some of these messages make it harder to follow Jesus?
3. Why do we sometimes choose things that we know are bad for us? What does that reveal about our flesh and sin?
4. Every Christian has the same basic testimony: "I was dead, but God made me alive." How is that different from the way people usually talk about becoming a Christian? Why do people prefer "I fixed myself" stories? Why is grace harder for us to accept?
5. Ephesians 2 says we are God's workmanship. What do you think that means for someone who feels stuck, discouraged, or disappointed in their spiritual growth? What would you say to a friend who feels like they're failing as a Christian?
